SANDHAN VALLEY CLEANLINESS DRIVE

Sandhan Valley is very rapidly becoming a tourist hotspot. Known for its naturally formed deep chasm walls, this beautiful valley attracts thousands of tourists every year. The nearest village is Samrad-of around 200 people.

Sandhan Valley is situated near Bhandardhara in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. The nearest city is Bhandardhara-around 20km outside of Samrad. People of Samrad come to Bhandardhara for all their necessities.

We have visited Sandhan valley many times. What stuck us every time, was the increasing number of people who visit Sandhan and the waste and garbage they leave behind. The valley is a mile long and 30 feet wide. This natural structure of Sandhan makes it difficult for the waste/garbage to get carried away by winds or rainwater thus making the valley polluted. Whatever waste is left behind, gets trapped in the huge rocks or gets carried away to the edge of the valley, making it very difficult to clean.

On our previous visit to Sandhan in 2016, we collectively collected 2full bags of garbage and trash from the valley with the help of local villagers. These bags then were carried 20km to the nearest dumpster near Bhandardhara for disposal. The main focus here is to show that it’s very difficult to clean the garbage in valley once polluted.

Our effort, during this cleanliness campaign, was to collect as much of garbage/waste as possible and educate the people of the village, the importance of keeping the valley clean. It’s the responsibility of every tourist/trekker who visits the valley, to keep it clean. We also discourage the villagers to sell or use disposable products and try to provide them with reusable products for everyday use, thus reducing waste and keeping surroundings clean.

This year again, on our visit to Sandhan on 27-28th May, we have a campaign to clean the valley and keep the surroundings green and beautiful.

Please help to spread the word!!

GO GREEN.
